The HSBC India Hurun Rich List 2024 is here! Adani, Ambani, and Nadar headline this year's list of India’s top billionaires.
HSBC Hurun Rich List 2024 saw the biggest Indian businessmen topping the charts. The list showcased India’s meteoric rise among the nation’s elites, pushing the number to 334 with 75 new entrants.
According to reports, India witnessed new billionaires every five days in 2024. Hurun’s Chief Researcher and Founder, Anas Rahman Junaid, said,
“India is emerging as Asia’s wealth creation engine! While China saw a 25 per cent decline in its number of billionaires, India experienced a 29 per cent increase, reaching a record 334 billionaires.”
Adani Group’s chairperson, Gautam Adani, replaced Reliance Industries MD, Mukesh Ambani, and became the richest Indian on the HSBC Hurun Rich List 2024.
Following the allegations by Hindenburg Research in 2023, Adani’s net worth had declined by 57%. However, in 2024, Adani’s wealth surged by 95% to claim the top spot on the Hurun List.
Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani got bumped down to the second spot on the Hurun’s List 2024. Ambani reported a net worth of ₹1,014,700 crore with a 25% change in 2024.
HCL’s Shiv Nadar gained the third spot on the list with ₹314,000 crore wealth in 2024. Compared to last year, Nadar moved up a place on the rich list India table, with a 37% change.
The Managing Director of the Serum Institute of India moved down one spot to fourth place. Cyrus S. Poonawalla reported a net worth of ₹289,800 crore in 2024 and was replaced by Shiv Nadar on the list.
Sun Pharmaceutical’s MD became the fifth richest Indian on the Hurun 2024 list, moving up one position from last year. Shanghavi and family’s net worth surged by 52% from last year, reporting ₹249,900 crore in wealth.

Aside from the wealthiest businessmen on the Hurun list, there were new additions to the list, with Zepto co-founders Kavialya Vohra and Aadit Palicha reporting ₹3,600 crore and ₹4,300 crore net worth, respectively. Vohra and Palicha were also the youngest Indians on the list.
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan also made his debut with an estimated net worth of ₹7,300 crore owing to his stakes in his IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders, and entertainment company Red Chillies Entertainment.
