The Story Behind Vivah Panchami
According to Hindu scriptures, the wedding took place in Janakpuri, now known as Janakpur, located in Nepal.
King Janak, the ruler of Mithila, arranged a swayamvar for his daughter Sita. The swayamvar came with a challenge where a man who could string the bow of Lord Shiva would be worthy of marrying King Janak’s daughter, Sita.
After several kings and princes failed to perform, Lord Rama, son of King Dashratha, lifted the massive bow and broke it, showcasing his worthiness and power.
Since Lord Rama completed the challenge, he was chosen as Goddess Sita’s husband-to-be.
It is believed that their union was celebrated with grandeur, and the gods from heaven showered flowers as a token of blessing to the couple.
